OUR ST. BERNARD DOGS

Before we immigrated we went and got a SctBernard dog - PONTY that we brought to Canada.

When I look back I can say “We were so silly”, but I realize it was a good thing for our 10-year-old daughter Linda.  For her it took some of the pain out of having to leave Denmark.

Linda, Harly and Ponty

We thought we could not get a Sct. Bernard dog in Canada and we did not even tell the people we were going to stay with that we were bringing a huge dog.  How rude of us. When I think about it now: we must have been pretty brainless.

Ponty lived with us for several years when we lived in Castlegar and Blueberry Creek in the West Kootenays,  but unfortunately we had to remove him, because our neighbors were so mean to him.  They would shoot him with a pellet gun.

We found a real nice place for Ponty on a huge farm, but an Elk killed him 6 months later.

MOLLY

We decided not to have another dog, but then one day Keld brought me another Sct.Bernard dog for m y birthday.  I have happy, but not happy.  Nevertheless she was so nice and when we got her, we could see that "she was more of a pure bread dog", than Ponty.  We called her for Molly.

But some years later, because we were moving to Vernon, British Columbia, Canada 1974, we could not bring Molly.  We placed her on a farm and asked to people to take good care of her.  They promised us if they could not keep her to let us know and we would take her back.

Nevertheless, two years later we found out that they had placed Molly on farm near Vernon, where we lived. We drove out to get her back.  When we came to the farm the Mom and Dad and little girl came out to greet us.

Molly remembered us.  She ran right in to the Van and was ready to go home.

But, then I looked at the little girl and saw her sad face.  She was really upset that Molly was going.  that made me think and  I told my husband that I could not take Molly away from the little girl.

A year later we found out that Molly had been driven over by a truck.  Very sad.

When Linda got married, she got herself a new MOLLY
