SHE SUFFERED MUCH
By Vibeke Lindhardt

She suffered much.
He brought her down.
The kids believed him.
They loved his charm.

He put them first.
They did not know.
It was his plan
to bring her low.

He built his case.
She was the pun.
The children loved him.
They liked the fun.

She could not win.
She loved him so.
But, no matter what she did.
He’d made sure “he” glow.

He trained the children’s
minds to know.
That “HE was fair”.
But her.  Not so.

Her mind broke down.
He was a glee.
It proved his words
what all could see.

The years went by
and she grew old.
“She was so crazy”.
The children told.

They all preferred
to be with Dad.
he’d fooled them all
And he was glad.

With the next two wives
He tried the same
They loved him too.
But discerned his game.

They suffered much.
He brought them down.
The kids believed him.
They loved his charm.

They could not win.
They loved him so,
but, no matter what they did.
He’d made sure “he’d” glow.

They did not know.
That wives came last.
They would have learned
If they’d know his past.

I wrote this poem as tribute to Bent Lindhardt’s first wife Birthe Lindhardt. In the seven years I was married to Bent I had a very, very strong feeling – that I based on his behavior towards me, that Birthe was being not only mentally and emotionally abused, but that Bent “gaslighted’ her.  I often felt extreme deep pain as if “I took on her pain”. I am convinced that SHE SUFFERED MUCH.
